Region of Abruzzo
LA QUERCIA: In the land of Morro D'Oro, a small town located in the heart of the "Colline Teramane" in the province of Teramo, "La Quercia"'s vineyards stretch out on the harmonious and sunny hills between the Adriatic Sea and the Gran Sasso mountain. The east and west positions, the altitude of about 250 metres above sea level, the optimal climate and the particular morphology of the land, make this an ideal area for grapes cultivation, with unique characteristics. The company "La Quercia" is managed by three partners who quite by chance became business colleagues towards the end of the 1980s. In fact, Elisabetta Di Berardino, sales manager, started working at a wine consulting company where the enologist Antonio Lamona had already been working for some years and where, a few years later, wine technician Fabio Pedicone, was also employed. They worked as colleagues until the year 2000 when they finally decided to take over the agricultural company La Quercia, having already collaborated as consultants. La Quercia is a small wine growing and producing company which extends for about 12 hectares of vineyards and about three hectares of olivegroves and a wine producing plant of about 400 sq.m. having a productive capacity of 4000 hl of wine. The land is cultivated with methods having low environmental impact, the activities of the company fully respect nature because management firmly believes this to be fundamental in order to obtain a quality product while respecting the well being of men and animals. During processing the product is treated as little as possible so that one may find, in the glass from which one is drinking, reflections of the land of origin and its typical characteristics.
Their wines are located here: Order Wine.
Abruzzo is about two-thirds mountains and one-third hills. It is east of Rome from the center of the Italian Peninsula to the Adriatic coast. It has four provinces;Chieti,L'Aquilla,
Pescara, and Teramo. The main grape varieties are the white Trebiano and the red Montepulciano. There is a town in Tuscany called Montepulciano not to be confused with the grape variety.
Abruzzo is known for it quality olive oil, saffron, and pasta. However the Montepulciano d' Abruzzo wine is what is best known for. To increase quality a few wineries have decreased crop yields and have aged the wines in barriques( a fifty gallon french barrel). We have obtained a Montepulciano d' Abruzzo for one of these producers, Cantina Miglianico in the province of Chieti.
