Region of Piedmont ( Piemonte)

Piedmont is Italy's western most region and borders Switzerland and France at the Alps. Piedmont literally translates to foot of the mountain Vineyards are planted on the hills not the plains and are harvested with some of the lowest yields in Italy. Its wines can be likened to the wines of Burgundy France.

Piedmont is known for it small high quality wineries, somewhat like Burgundy only more consistent from producer to producer. The average vineyard is 2.5 acres per owner. Piedmmont grows more different varieties of grapes and therefore makes more different wines than Burgundy.

The prominent red grapes varieties are: Nebbiolo(the grape of Barolo and Barbaresco), Barbera and Dolcetto( sweet little one). The prominent white grape varieties are Cortese ( Gavi) and Moscato that goes into Moscato di Asti.

Along with Tuscany Piedmont has the reputation of producing the finest wines in Italy.

Fratelli Ferrero Winery in La Morra Piedmont

Nina and Renato Ferrero run the small winery. LaMorra is considered by many the best spot in Piedmont. Ferrero has two vineyards, one on the hill Manzoni the other on the hill Gattera. The area is also know as Annunziata.

Nina and Renato also have two apartments for rent to tourists. A great place to stay.

We believe that Ferrero wines are equal to and better than wines costing two and three times as much!

We now have two Barolos and will be adding their Barbera this fall.

The Ferrero wines are located here:  Order Wine.

Ascheri

In a world where wines are generally produced with the same grapes, the same technology, the same wood for ageing and above all the same consultants, our aim is to obtain a wine which is the expression of the vineyard it comes from, of the grapes it was made of, and above all of our own ideas.

The Ascheri wines are located here: Order Wine.
