The slopes and neighboring villages around Montefalco comprise the DOC zone.

Montefalco supplies full-flavored rosso from much of the area, but it is the dry and passito versions of the Sagrantino di Montefalco wines that are establishing this regions accolades. Full-bodied wines age extremely well and are very ageworthy. In recognition of its high-quality wines, the Sagrantino di Montefalco zone was upgraded to DOCG status in the mid-1990s.
